Data Governance Lead
to support the implementation of a Global Data function within the organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing data governance policies and practices to ensure that data is managed as a valuable asset, remains compliant with regulations, and aligns with the organisation's strategic objectives. The role involves leading data quality, compliance, and stewardship efforts to ensure data integrity and reliability across the business. The person will provide the frameworks, policies, and oversight necessary to ensure that data is reliable, secure, and compliant in all territories. They will work closely with the Global Head of Data to implement governance strategies that support the organisation’s data-driven objectives and minimise risk, ensuring that data is a trusted asset.

About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity to work for us as Global Data Governance Lead as part of our Global Data function. The role can be based in multiple locations across our European Home Credit business.
The Global Data Governance Lead holds a critical position and will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and overseeing a robust data governance framework within IPF. This position requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of data governance best practices, and a proven track record in leveraging data for business insights.
They will be instrumental in shaping IPF’s data practices, ensuring compliance, mitigating risks, and promoting a culture of responsible data management. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of both the technical and regulatory aspects of data governance in the financial services industry.
The primary objective of the Global Data Governance Lead role is to establish and implement robust data governance frameworks and policies, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance across all territories, to support the organisation’s strategic, data-driven goals and minimise risk.
Your day-to-day activities are likely to include the following:
- Develop and Implement Data Governance Policies: Create, enforce, and continuously update governance policies and standards to ensure consistent, reliable, and secure management of data assets across the organisation.
- Oversee Data Quality Management: Design and implement frameworks that ensure data is accurate, consistent, and fit for purpose, while resolving data quality issues proactively to enhance business decision-making.
- Ensure Compliance and Manage Risk: Ensure that the organisation’s data governance practices adhere to legal, regulatory, and internal requirements, while identifying and mitigating risks to protect data integrity and security.
- Coordinate Data Stewardship Across Departments: Collaborate with Data Stewards across different business units to ensure that data management practices align with global governance standards and maintain data integrity at the local level.
- Lead Data Governance Education and Training: Develop and lead initiatives to promote understanding of data governance across the organisation, ensuring teams are well-equipped to maintain governance practices.
- Monitor and Report on Governance Metrics: Establish metrics and reporting frameworks to track the effectiveness of data governance initiatives, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with strategic objectives.
- Support Data Governance in Strategic Projects: Provide governance oversight for key data initiatives, ensuring that data assets are managed appropriately, and governance best practices are applied throughout.
- Drive Data Culture: Act as a champion for data governance, fostering a data-centric culture where governance principles are embraced as a foundation for business operations and innovation.
What are we looking for?
- Extensive Experience in Data Governance: The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading data governance initiatives, with extensive experience in data management, stewardship, or similar roles within large, complex organisations. This experience should demonstrate an ability to drive enterprise-level data governance strategies, ensuring alignment with business goals and best practices. The candidate will be adept at building data governance structures that facilitate high-quality, trusted data assets and improve overall data maturity across the organisation.
- In-depth Knowledge of Data Governance Frameworks: We are looking for a candidate with a comprehensive understanding of data governance models, including data quality management, data lifecycle management, and metadata management. Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory compliance requirements (such as GDPR, CCPA, or other relevant regulations) is essential. This expertise should translate to the ability to assess, design, and implement robust frameworks that ensure data is secure, accurate, and used in compliance with all relevant standards.
- Policy Development Expertise: The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to develop and implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures that strengthen and standardise data management practices. This includes creating clear and actionable guidelines that support data ownership, stewardship, and best practices for data usage across different teams and departments. They should also be skilled in adapting policies to accommodate changing business needs and regulatory landscapes.
- Excellent Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Exceptional communication skills are vital for this role. The candidate should be capable of translating complex data governance concepts into language that resonates with technical and non-technical stakeholders alike. They should demonstrate experience in fostering collaboration, influencing decision-making, and engaging with various teams, including senior leadership, data stewards, IT, and business units. The ability to create strong partnerships and promote a data-driven culture across the organisation is a key requirement.
- Project Management and Strategic Thinking: The role requires an individual who can manage multiple projects simultaneously while solving complex data challenges in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The candidate should exhibit a strategic mindset, with the ability to align data governance initiatives with the broader business strategy and drive long-term improvements. Experience in project management, including planning, executing, and tracking progress, is essential for ensuring timely and effective delivery of data governance programmes.
- Desirable Qualifications: Degree in Data Science, Information Management, Computer Science, or a related field. Certifications in Data Governance, Data Quality, or Data Privacy (such as CDMP, DAMA, or equivalent).
